  • Livestock Conference 2017

    Group photoInnovations for Sustainable and Resilient Livestock Enterprise Development in 12th FYP was the main theme for Department of Livestock (DoL) conference, which was held from 12th-17th June 2017 at Bumthang. This theme according to DoL is a step to address emerging and pragmatic issues, which affects the rural livelihood. Over 150 Livestock officials from Dzongkhags, Central Programs, Regional livestock Development Centres and Livestock Farms, and other Livestock development partners like Rural Enterprise Development Corporation Ltd. (REDCL), Department of Agricultural Marketing and Cooperatives (DAMC), and Commercial Agriculture & Resilient Livelihoods Enhancement Programme (CARLEP) participated in the conference. The conference had two sessions:

    • Parallel Session (To set the ground for Formulating strategic Intervention for Livestock Development in 12th FYP) was chaired by Dr. Tashi Samdup, Director General, Department of Livestock.

  • Advanced Farm Machinery Training for Extension Officers start at AMC

    FB_IMG_1497936072710June 20-29, Paro: The Agriculture Machinery Training Section under the Agriculture Machinery Centre (AMC) is organising an Advanced Farm Machinery Training for sixty extension officers who had already attained the basic course.

    The training is aimed to further improve the services to the farm machine owners through them. Following the training, participants shall be well versed to troubleshoot the technical problems in the field.

    19 June 2017: The Rural Development Training Centre (RDTC) in Zhemgang under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forest (MoAF) is in the process of developing framework for RDTC training Curriculum and modules. The RDTC strives to go Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) with the financial assistance of Bhutan Trust Fund for Environment and Conservation (BTFEC), towards achieving sustainable development guided by the Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) concept and its 3 pillars– productivity, adaptation and mitigation. The CSA Curriculum framework developed through the consultative process involving participants from different agencies under MoAF drafted through two rounds of meetings at Namsey Chholing Resort at Paro.

    17 June 2017: Coinciding with the World Day to Combat Desertification (WDCD) on 17 June 2017, the Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture & Forests launched the Agriculture Land Development Guidelines (ALDG) for sustainable management of agriculture land through adoption of proper processes, procedures and technologies.

  • Apiculture Research and Development Consultative Workshop

    beekeeping workshop pic16 June 2017: Officials from Central and Regional Programs, Dzongkhags and beekeeping groups chairman, secretary and treasurers attended a one day workshop on beekeeping on 10 June 2017 at NH-RDC Jakar. The workshop was conducted with financial support from ICIMOD. The workshop had reviewed various beekeeping research and developmental activities of the past and deliberated pertinent issues regarding beekeeping development in the country.

    The workshop after prioritising the beekeeping activities had developed a strategy to accelerate the beekeeping development in the 12th Five Year Plan.
