  • Bhutan’s 2nd dog population survey shows remarkable progress in canine management program

    Thimphu: Humane Society International (HSI) in a joint project with the Department of Livestock, Bhutan has conducted its second dog population survey in Bhutan since 2009, when the country’s National Dog Population Management and Rabies Control Project (NDPMRCP) was launched. Approximately 85,000 dogs in Bhutan have undergone sterilisation and anti-rabies vaccination till date.

    After researchers analyse the results, they will be able to determine the pet population per 100 humans. The findings will be crucial for designing responsible pet ownership and community engagement programs.

  • Invitation – Application for Fleming Fund Fellowship

    The UK Government’s Department of Health and Social Care has established the Fleming Fund to respond to the global threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The aim of the Fleming Fund is to address critical gaps in surveillance of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, which are set to bear the highest burden of antibiotic-resistant infections.

    The Fleming Fund Grants Programme provides financial support to strengthen capacity gaps identified in the National Action Plans of the participating countries. Support is provided via three funding channels, over a five-year period from 2017 to 2021:

  • Haa Summer Festival: Platform for Regional cooperation for sustainable yak production in Kangchenjunga Landscape

    14-15 July 2018: The Kangchenjunga Landscape Conservation and Development Initiative (KLCDI) partners from India, Nepal and Bhutan participated in the Haa Summer Festival from 14th to 15th July 2018 at Haa, Bhutan. The KLCDI is a transboundary conservation and development programme jointly implemented by the government of Bhutan, India and Nepal. It is facilitated and supported by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) based in Kathmandu, Nepal.

    The festival brought together more than 500 visitors and it was graced by His Excellency, Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan and other dignitaries. The objectives of festival were to celebrate rich traditions of Bhutan’s nomadic herders, its living-culture, unique Bhutanese cuisine, traditional sports and religious performances.
