  • Fodder plantation held in Phuentsholing geog

    UntitledJune 2, Chukha: Coinciding with the Social Forestry Day on June 2, the National Centre for Animal Nutrition (NCAN) in collaboration with the Regional Livestock Development Centre, Tsimasham and the Dzongkhag Livestock Sector, Chukha carried out fodder plantation under the ‘Contract fodder grower program’ for the dairy farmers in Phuentsholing geog. The program was started to mark the importance of the day and continued till June 7.

    The opening was attended by the geog gup, mangmi, Chukha Dzongkhag Livestock Officer and members of the Phuentsholing Gonor Chetuen Tshogpa (Dairy group) among others.

    24 May 2015, Thimphu: The Fourth Joint Agricultural Working Group (JAWG) began today at Hotel Druk, Thimphu. The meeting was chaired by the Hon’ble Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF), Dasho Tenzin Dhendup with representatives from Bhutan’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forests and Thailand’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.

  • Layaps take up fodder production to address feed shortages

    UntitledTrashigang: Yak rearing is one of the main farming activities in Laya geog besides cordyceps collection and has the highest yak population in Gasa.

    To feed yaks, Layaps has been using open grazing rangeland (Tsamdro) registered in their respective name. Although the rangelands are main summer grazing area for yaks, acute fodder shortages is seen in winter. This problem leads to low milk production and higher rate of yak calf mortality causing economic loss to yak herders.
