  • Enhancing fodder conservation and TMR technologies in Jigmecholing

    About 30 farmers attended the training

    December 21-25, Sarpang: About 30 farmers attended the five days training on “Fodder conservation and Total Mixed Ration (TMR) technologies” in Jigmecholing. The training was aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of farmers on fodder conservation techniques such as silage making, hay making and crop residue enrichment techniques. It also promoted the use and formulation of local feed resources as alternatives to commercial feeds.

  • Beekeeping training for youths and farmers in Zhemgang

    December 19-25, Zhemgang: The basic beekeeping training is underway for 25 youths and farmers of Buli, Nangkor gewog. The training will introduce the modern moveable frame hive (Newton .B hive) of the eastern region for local honey production to create the rural employment opportunities for jobless youths and farmers.

    The National Apiculture Program at the National Highland Research and Development Centre, Bumthang and RLDC-Zhemgang is imparting the training with fund from GEF-LDCF, the UNDP supported project. Similar trainings were also conducted at Metdsho gewog in Lhuentse and Saleng gewog in Mongar.

  • Fourth National One Health Workshop

    The Conference was held at Namsay Choeling Resort

    December 19 to 21, Paro: The concept of “One Health” is gaining momentum and is a high priority at the global, regional and national levels. To this effect Bhutan has already started operationalising the “One Health Concept” with the endorsement of Bhutan One Health Strategy Plan by the Government. The Concept is critical because the health of humans and animals is interlinked and majority of emerging, re-emerging, and endemic human diseases have their origins at the human-animal-ecosystem interface. More than 60% known human pathogens originate from animals and about 75% emerging infectious diseases are zoonotic (disease transmitted from animals to humans) in nature. Therefore, there is a shared responsibility and synergic potential for collaboration between public health, animal health and the environment sectors in the efforts to combat emerging and re-emerging infectious and zoonotic diseases.
