  • Aquaculture Workshop cum Coordination Meeting 2016 underway

    Untitled-1April 4-6, Sarpang: The Aquaculture Workshop Cum Coordination Meeting 2016 is underway in Gelephu. Participants include the Regional Directors of the four Regional Livestock Development Centres, Dzongkhag Livestock Officers, field officers and division heads from Department of Livestock (DoL). Organised by the National Centre for Aquaculture Research (NCAR), the workshop is being chaired by the Director General of DoL.

    The meeting aims to harmonise the country’s aquaculture program with the outcomes of the DoL’s Organisation Development Exercise (DoL-ODE) and the stipulations of annual performance agreement. Among other things, the event will enable the tweaking of existing aquaculture development strategies towards realising the 11th Five Year Plan aquaculture program goals. Further, a critical assessment of the challenges faced in developing aquaculture in Bhutan will be conducted towards identifying and implementing solutions that are productive, dynamic and absolutely amenable to the objectives of ODE.

  • Biogas training held at Pemathang

    BIO- pictures 454March 23-April 3, Samdrup Jongkhar: Twenty-nine local Masons and 10 Supervisors from various geogs of six eastern Dzongkhags, farmers and Livestock Extension Agents completed the 12 days training on scientific techniques of constructing bio-digester. It was organised by the Bhutan Biogas Project at Pemathang geog under Samdrup Choeling Drungkhag.

    The training provided a community-based technical hands-on training on bio-digester construction at hamlet level to encourage the usage of biogas and increase the number of biogas plant users in the eastern region. The training is expected to play an important role in benefiting and creating employment opportunities for youths in the region.

  • Workshop on Animal Health and Production Services underway

    Workshop pictureMarch 29-April 2, Phuentsholing: The Department of Livestock is conducting a five days “Training Workshop on Animal Health and Production Services” at the City Veterinary Hospital. Fifty participants from various agencies like Wildlife Conservation Division, Drug Regulatory Authority, BAFRA and College of Natural Resources along with Veterinary Officers from 20 Dzongkhags, Regional Livestock Development Centres, National Centre for Animal Health (NCAH), National Animal Hospital (NAH), NPBC and AHD are attending it.

    The workshop is being organised to revamp and develop veterinary clinical services in the country, to link animal health to production and to share scientific research/field clinical experiences. Participants will also work on the implementation modality for the third phase National Dog Population Management and Rabies Control Project.
