  • Bio-gas Plant in Trongsa: An approach to cheap, green and Renewable Energy solution

    Untitled-1The Livestock sector of Trongsa Dzongkhag coordinated and initiated the establishment of Bio-gas plants in Drakten and Langthil geogs, the first of its kind in the Dzongkhag. It involved both the beneficiaries and sector employees as part of a capacity building programme which served as a platform for the sector staff to learn the fundamentals of biogas plant construction and operation through practical engagement. Two teams were formed, one for each geog comprising proportionate mixture of skills and man force. The programme was carried out under the sector budget funded by the Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project Authority (MHPA).

  • Calf Rally Exhibition conducted at Trashigang


    1 June, Trashigang: Dzongkhag Livestock Sector, Trashigang organised a Calf Rally Exhibition on 1/06/2016 at Pam village, Trashigang. Opening ceremony of the exhibition was conducted by Dasho Dzongrab of Trashigang Dzongkhag who was accompanied by senior officials of various sectors.

    In the welcoming note N.S. Tamang, Dzongkhag Livestock Officer, Trashigang, highlighted a few shortcome objectives of the program some of which are to encourage farmers to adopt rearing improved Jersey progeny cow through contact heifer and breeding production program (CHBPP), households adopting stall feeding practice to enhance clean milk production, and stimulate farmers to run-through scientific management of dairy farming.

  • Dairy group farmer undergo community fodder plantation

    Untitled-1May 28, Pemagatshel: Thirty dairy farmers of Bartseri Gonor Chirphuen Detshen in Shumar participated in a community fodder plantation program. It was focused on a pilot basis to encourage farmers group to own their fodder bank and earn additional income from sale of fodder stems and slips.

    The livestock sector representatives stated to the farmers that fodder plays a crucial role for the success of dairy farming. However, in Bhutan people are very ambitious and farmers try to compromise with smaller pasture land holding and try to rear more cattle. Smaller land holding has been a concern for fodder development in which Tumbukiza technology derived from Kenya, Africa mainly by limited landholding farmer could be one of the options to address it.
