    June 27, Bumthang: Farmers training on sustainable rangeland management practice is being conducted at Dhur under Chokkhortey Geog in Bumthang Dzongkhag. The main objective of the training is to create awareness among highland communities on importance of protecting rangelands which support the livelihood of the highlanders. The participants were introduced to application of various measures related to sustainable land management practice in degraded rangelands. After completion of training, highland community is expected to identify rangelands that are prone to degradation within their jurisdiction and implement SLMP technologies accordingly.

    26 June, Paro: The National Centre for Riverine & Lake Fisheries (NCR&LF), Haa under the Department of Livestock (DoL) conducted a two days training cum workshop on “Wild Fisheries Development – concept sensitisation, Field Coordination and Focal Point Roles and Responsibilities Dissemination” for participants from various stakeholder agencies, in Paro from 15 – 16  June 2015.  Participants included focal points from various Forest and Park offices, District Livestock sectors and Regional Livestock Development Centres, under the Ministry of Agriculture & Forests (MoAF).

    19 June, Haa:  The Dzongkhag Livestock Sector, Haa organised a one day Cattle Exhibition cum Mart in Uesu Geog on 19 June 2015. Dasho Dzongdag of Haa graced the occasion and also present were the officials of Haa Dzongkhag administration, local geog officials and people of Uesa geog. The Cattle exhibition has been organised annually by the Dzongkhag Livestock sector since almost all the people of Haa depend on livestock and their main source of income is generated from livestock farming. Consequently more than 100 numbers of cattle from Uesa Geog, had been seen tethered at Haa military helipad for the day cattle exhibition.

  • Doctors and Vets working together to improve Human & Animal Health

    23 June, Thimphu: A new One Health program is helping improve detection and management of diseases spread from wildlife and animals to humans in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal.

    sit1The three-year program Integrating Education and Action for One Health, to complete in 2017, is funded by the European Union and implemented by Massey University of New Zealand. Participants from the four countries are currently in Thimphu, Bhutan, attending a 2-week long intensive workshop on Evaluation of Disease Control Policy and Economics led by Professor Roger Morris, Dr Joanna McKenzie, Dr Masako Wada and Dr Sithar Dorjee from Massey University of New Zealand.

    22 June, Pemagatshel: The long awaited dream of Maymey Tenzin, 67 years old for having a community Artificial Insemination (A.I) Centre at Tselingkhor village in Pemagatshel came to reality on 11 June 2015. There were tears of joy in his eyes and a derelict smile in his wrinkled face. His neighbour, Ahbee Choden, was amused to see Maymey Dorji in this state.
