    The new Agriculture Director General with Hon’ble Lyonpo

    July 22, Thimphu: The Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, today received a new Director General for Agriculture Department and offered Trashi Khadhar to Director General of Livestock Department. The Agriculture DG was transferred from the Finance Ministry while Livestock DG was recently promoted.

    APA web 221-22 July, Thimphu: The livestock officials including the Program Directors, Farm Managers, Dzongkhag Veterinary Officers, Dzongkhag Livestock Officers from across the country and seniors from the headquarters are attending a two days consultative meeting at the Livestock Conference Hall.

    The meeting will ensure the accomplishment of the proposed targeted activities (2015-2016) for all offices are in line with the parent Department. This was felt necessary following a recent signing of annual performance agreement with the Government. The floor will also discuss field issues and budget among others.

    July 10, Thimphu: The Livestock Department will continue the dog population management activities for next three years with a fund support of Nu 10.23M. For this, the third phase of the dog population management and rabies control project was launched by the Hon’ble Agriculture Lyonpo, Yeshey Dorji and Dr. Andrew Rowan, the CEO for Humane Society International (HSI) at Terma Linca Resort.

  • Inauguration of new farmers dairy group in Paro

    DSC017699 July, Paro: A new farmer’s dairy group called as “Damchena Phuensum Omgi Detsuen” is being inaugurated at Dopshari geog. The Chief Guest of the occasion, Dasho Dzongrab highlighted on the importance of cooperation among the group members and stressed on the need to work as a team to address community problems and conflicts. According to the Dzongkhag Livestock Officer, the 60 households of Damchena mostly depend on livestock farming as their main source of income. Therefore, the group is being formed to assist the farmers of Damchena to enhance dairy milk production and establish proper formal marketing channel for their fresh milk. The fresh milk will be sold to the customers through Youth Business Cooperative’s farm outlets in Thimphu.

    The formation of the group is being supported by National Dairy Development Centre and Regional Livestock Development Centre, Department of Livestock.
