  • Pet dog show and RNR exhibition held in Wangdue

    Wangdue: To commemorate the 60th Birth Anniversary of 4th Druk Gyalpo, a pet dog show and RNR exhibition were held at Bajo from 9-11 November 2015. The Hon’ble Lyonpo, Tandin Wangchuk from the Ministry of Health graced the occasion as a Chief Guest.

    The dog show was witnessed by more than 600 people. Prizes were given to three categories of dogs and a consolation prize to each participant. This is the first attempt in the country to showcase different breeds of dogs. The exhibition displayed various RNR products, flowers and bamboo products along with technologies such as electric fencing system and mushroom farming. A quiz competition was also held.

    November 2- 7, Mongar: About forty dairy farmers who are members of dairy groups from Mongar geog attended a week long training on Napier grass silage making in plastic bags at Patpari jointly organised by the National Centre for Animal Nutrition (NCAN), Bumthang with Mongar Dzongkhag and RLDC, Kanglung.

    Thimphu: Gid disease is one of the main concerns for highland farmers; the disease has been affecting the young yaks of one to three years of age resulting in a serious mortality. As the yaks are the main source of livelihoods for highland farmers, the need to review the current Gid preventive measures and discuss its strategic approach was felt necessary.

  • Fodder Block Processing Unit inaugurated at Gunitsawa

    pic from phone 376November 7, Paro: To commemorate the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty, The Fourth Druk Gyalpo, the Dzongkhag Livestock Sector, Paro inaugurated the Fodder Block Processing Unit at Gunitsawa.

    The Chief Guest of the occasion, Mr. Naiten Wangchuk, the Chief from the Department of Livestock stressed on the importance of the highlanders on retaining yak farming not only for sustaining their livelihood but also for the sovereignty and security of the country. He informed the highlanders that the government will do its best to provide necessary support to retain yak farming practices in the country. He also highlighted on the opportunities that the yak farming communities have particularly in the eco-tourism sector and their contribution to conserving the environment.
