  • World Antibiotic Awareness Week

    20 November, Thimphu: The World Antibiotic Awareness Week (WAAW) is observed globally from 18-24 November to raise awareness of the health risks posed by antibiotic resistance, promote good practices and limit the spread of resistant bacteria across the world.

    To mark the WAAW, a half day workshop on “Advocacy on Antimicrobial Resistance to the One Health Stakeholders” was held at the National Veterinary Hospital, Motithang to create awareness to stakeholders with a global theme, ‘The future of antibiotics depends on all of us.’

  • Extensions agents learn dairy post production technologies

    28 October-1 November: Twenty extension agents from GEF project areas of Wangdue, Tsirang, Haa, Paro, Punakha and Thimphu attended a training, ‘Capacity enhancement on Dairy Post Production Technologies (Farm-To-Table)’ with theory and hands on practical production of yogurt, paneer, rasgulla and mozzarella.

    The theory session was conducted at the Regional Livestock Development Centre (RLDC), Wangdue while the practical session was held at the milk processing unit in Kuruthang, Punkaha. The National Dairy Research and Development Centre, Yusipang and RLDC-Wangdue organised the training with fund from GEF-LDCF.

  • AI refresher training course underway in eastern Bhutan

    25 October-7 November 2019, Mongar: The intensive cross cattle breeding program is a top priority for the Dzongkhag Livestock Sector of Lhuentse in the 12th FYP to achieve milk production baseline target of 1450 MT (2017) to 2000 MT (2023), self-sufficiency of dairy products and enhance rural livelihoods.

    To fulfill the aspiration, the Regional Livestock Development Centre-Kanglung and the sector of eastern Bhutan is organising the artificial insemination (AI) refresher training course at Thangrong. The training is aimed at translating the healthier AI knowledge, develop skill of the fresh livestock officials and provide a refresher course to the existing AI technicians. “After availing the training, I will contribute my service towards achieving the objective of the cattle breeding program,” shared Sherub Thinley, the extension officer of Lhuentse. He hopes that the training will help participants to bring better performance of AI and intensification of crossbred cattle progenies for dairy farmers.
