    18-19 August, Thimphu. Wildlife Conservation Division, Department of Forest and Park Services organized a two day consultation workshop on Snow Leopard Conservation Program at the NRDCL hall, Thimphu. The two days workshop focused on National Snow Leopard Ecosystem & Protection Program planned for seven years, the two years implementation plan & end outcomes, sharing of research findings on Snow Leopard from the Wangchuck Centennial Park and Jigme Dorji National Park.

  • Six months phenology observation records: An insight from 17 schools

    HEROES(http://www.bpn.gov.bt), a school based phenology monitoring system in Bhutan, was operationalised in February, 2014. Since then, students from 17 schools have been closely monitoring , recording and reporting plant’s phenological event such as timing for budburst, young leaf, flower bud, open flower, ripe fruit and leaf fall. Within a time frame of six months, HEROES has collected over 30000 phenology records. Observations were reported for 30 species of trees, 10 species of shrubs and 10 species of herbs. On average, each school has reported observation of 120 days since February, 2014.

    Although it is very early to draw any conclusive result based on few months data, it is said to have yielded heightened awareness of daily and seasonal changes occurring in plant among the group of observers. Also, as per the first phase record, the observation from few schools are sporadic and inconsistent.. Six months exercise on phenology observing has yielded some insight which could be used in refinement and standardization of phenology observing and reporting protocols.

Dhungel, Ministry of Information and Communications, Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, Dasho Paljor.J.Dorji, several Members of Parliament, Dasho Ugen Tshewang, Secretary, National Environment Commission, Dasho Tenzin Dhendup, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Forest, Dasho Dr. Sonam Tenzin, Secretary, Ministry of Economic Affairs, senior government officials of various government ministries and departments, desups, 120 students & teachers of Thimphu Thromde schools.

  • Annual Mushroom Festival 2014

    The communities of Ura geog under Bumthang will be organizing the Annual Mushroom festival from 23-24August 2014 at Ura geog office. The festival is organized by Ura Mushroom conservation and Tourism Association (UMCTA) in collaboration with Thrumshingla National Park (TNP), Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS) and Tourism Council of Bhutan aiming to pay tribute and gratitude for 60th birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.
