  • Trongsa celebrates Social Forestry Day

    The Sector Heads, staffs of Dzongkhag Administration, Royal Bhutan Police, Schools, Business community and Regional heads together commemorated and observed Social Forestry Day on 2nd June 2015 to celebrate the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The day began with offering collective prayers and good wishes for the long life and well being of our revered Monarchs and offerings of facilitations to His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

  • Commemorative plantation to be held in Tsirang

    The Tsirang Forest Division in collaboration with the Dzongkhag Administration will be carrying out commemorative plantation coinciding with the Social Forestry Day celebration on June 2. The Division will be establishing commemorative plantation in an area covering 9.8 acres above the National Football Stadium, Damphu basically to convert the degraded forest into manmade high value forests by planting local valuable species like Champ for meeting the future timber requirements.

    The Veteran Lam Neten, Tsirang Dratsang has kindly agreed to grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dasho Drangpon, Dasho Dzongrab, the sector heads from Tsirang, representatives from different regional offices, principals, students, Gup, Magmi and tshogpa of the neighbouring geogs and the staff of the Forestry Department will take part in the tree planting activities.

  • Social Forestry Day 2015 Message from Hon’ble Lyonpo



    Our forest plantation record dates back to the late 1940s when the first plantation was carried out in Gelephu in an area of 3.20 acres.  The annual tree planting tradition of the Department was re-enforced with the declaration of June 2 as the Social Forestry Day in 1985 to commemorate the coronation of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, who is a visionary environmentalist.  On this day, the nation comes together as a family to plant saplings and share the values of planting trees for a healthy local environment and also enriching wildlife habitats.
