  • FAO’s report on status of the World’s Soil Resources launched

    The Status of the World’s Soil Resources report was launched on the 4th December in FAO Head Quarter during the World Soil Day Celebration and the official closure of the 2015 International Year of Soil.

    The report is based on the assessment of more than 200 environmental scientists of the state-of-knowledge on soil resources and soil change. It reports on the major soil changes globally and in more detail on regional changes that includes scientific data on soil erosion, soil organic carbon change, soil sealing, soil nutrient changes etc.

    Mr. Chencho Norbu, the Director General of the Department of Forests and Park Services, is one of the Coordinating Lead Authorson the Chapter 7: The Impact of soil change on Ecosystem Services of SWSR.

SJD/ADM/S-1/2015-2016/392, Samdrup Jongkhar Divisional Forest Office Committee is pleased to award the work for “Preparation of detail estimates, drawing, design and supervision of construction of the proposed office of the Chief Forestry Officer, Samdrup Jongkhar” to M/s LT Associates, Thimphu at negotiated amount of Nu.13, 30,000.00(Ngultrum Thirteen Lakhs Thirty Thousand Only).

    The firm scored the combined technical and financial score of 87.8%.The work is awarded vide letter no.SJD/ADM/S-1/2015-2016/580 dated 22/12/15 based on the work awarding committee meeting held on 2nd of December, 2015 in the office of Chief Forest officer.

  • The SFS -Bhutan Program Research Symposium held

    20151214_104145[1]December 14, Thimphu: The School for Field Studies (SFS) -Bhutan Program Research Symposium was held yesterday in Thimphu at the Royal Thimphu College to present the findings of directed field research carried out by SFS students during their 3 month semester program period in Bhutan.

    21 undergraduate students from 19 different universities or colleges of the USA have been undertaking the semester course on ‘Himalayan Environment and Society in Transition’ at the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment (UWICE), Bumthang since September 2015. The students have carried out field research related to forests, biodiversity, and rural livelihoods under Choekhor and Tang geogs in Bumthang.
