  • Familiarisation trip for tour operators and guides at Lampelri park

    Familirization tour 27111 January, Lampelri. Nature Recreation and Ecotourism Division (NRED), Department of Forests and Park Services organised a familiarisation trip to The Royal Botanical Park in Lampelri for tour operators and guides. The visit aimed to create awareness of the facilities and services available at the park. With this trip, it is expected that the tour operators and guides will now include visits to The Royal Botanic Park in their itineraries.

    Mrs Pat Darlington, an Australian Volunteer for Environment Education, facilitated the guide tour to Serichu track, rhododendron garden, bamboo grove, orchid house, yak camp, Baritsho Lake and the camp site. The guided trip included bird watching and an introduction to a beautiful broad-leaved forest of rhododendron, oak, breech and other plants present at the park to help tour guides learn about Bhutan’s natural environment and conservation as well as inspire support for the preservation of our country’s rich ecological and cultural heritage.

  • GIS and GPS training for Engineers

    A week long training on Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographic Information System(GIS) for the staffs of Engineering Division, Department of Agriculture, started on January 5, 2015. The training is conducted by UWICE in collaboration with the Engineering Division, Department of Agriculture.

    In total, 24 participants from the engineering background are attending the training. From this introductory training, the participants are expected to learn how to collect, integrate and interpret data using GIS software and GPS equipment. The training will be delivered as a combination of lectures, demonstration, hands-on exercise, and field survey.

  • Himalayan Black Bear successfully rescued and released

    Untitled23 December 2014: The Rescue team rushed to Zabasa village in Kabisa gewog under Punakha Dzongkhag to rescue the Himalayan Black bear which was trapped in the cable snare set up by Ap Wangdi. Ap Wangdi had set up the cable snare to protect his calves and chickens from predation by the Himalayan Black Bear which has been visiting his place quite frequently. The bear got entangled in the snare at 2:00 AM on 23 December 2014.

    Ap Wangdi informed the forestry extension office of Kabisa about the incident and requested for help. The extension agent immediately called the rescue team of the Wildlife Rescue and Animal Health Section of the Wildlife Conservation Division and requested for the rescue and relocation of the trapped bear.
