    Safe and Sound, An old and aged rescued Himalayan Black Bear

    August 18, 2015, Thimphu: Officials from Wildlife Rescue and Animal Health Center at Taba rescued a male Himalayan Black Bear, weighing 116 kgs, earlier this month. The animal was brought to the rehabilitation facility after rescuing from Dorithasa under Dekiling geog in Haa Dzongkhag.

  • Training on Participatory Ecosystem Based Planning and Management

    UntitledAugust 5-11, Haa: A week long training on the ‘Participatory Ecosystem Based Planning and Management (PEBPM)’ was organised by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development and co-hosted by the Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS). Thirty-three participants comprised of mid-level technicians and development workers from the three member countries of the Kangchenjunga Landscape Conservation and Development Initiative (KLCDI) attended it.

    The training built and strengthened the participants’ knowledge on PEBPM who were introduced to the various tools of participatory rural appraisal and also provided hands-on the usage of the tools with the communities in Bji geog.

  • 4th Jigme Singye Wangchuck Outstanding Environmental Stewardship Award

    The Jigme Singye Wangchuck Outstanding Environmental Stewardship Award (JSW-OESA) is conferred as homage to His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo’s selfless service and farsighted leadership.

    The Award recognizes and honours individuals, groups and institutions from all backgrounds for a lifetime of contribution towards ensuring the security and sustainability of Bhutan’s pristine environment. It particularly merits those who have gone beyond the normal call-of-duty in their service towards environmental protection.

    This year, in Commemoration of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo Pal Jigme Singye Wangchuck’s 60th Birth Anniversary, a special edition of the award will be conferred. The award will be conferred during the opening ceremony of the first Bhutan Bird Festival (http://uwice.gov.bt/birdfest2015/index.php).
