Social Forestry Day Plantation
2nd June, Sarpang: Joining the Nation in celebrating the Coronation Day of the Great Forth Druk Gyalpo, a commemorative plantation was carried out at the National Piggery Development Centre in Gelephu. The saplings of horticulture species (banana/arecanut, etc.) were planted in 2 acres of land in the farm campus, resulting in a total orchard areas of 5 acres so far. It was planned to make the Campus “Green and Healthy Environment” as the Centre has vacant land and also to augment sustainable revenue generation.
The unit managed to arrange the seedlings from National Seed Centre, Bhur, and other Private Nursery Operators, which were planted on June 02, 2016. The Program Director, NPiDC highlighted the gathering on the significance of the day.

Tsirang celebrates Social Forestry Day
Tsirang Dzongkhag saw Desuups in collaboration with Tsirang Forest Division and Dzongkhag Forestry Sector celebrating Social Forestry Day by planting tree species. One hectare of barren and degraded area in Menchuna, Kikorthang Geog was taken up for tree plantation by the Desuups. Hon’ble Dasho Dzongdag, Tsirang Dzongkhag Administration was the Chief Guest.
Around 1000 saplings of Champ (Michelia sp), Guli (Persia sp), Tsenden (Cypressus corneyana), Angarey (Phoebe sp.) were planted on the day with participation by Desuups, foresters, staff of the Dzongkhag Administration, Royal Bhutan Police, Monk bodies and regional offices. The 1 ha land has now been adopted by the Desuups and from here on, the Desuups will look after the management aspect (weeding, cleaning, casualty replacement) of the imposing plantation till the plantation is fully established.

Social Forestry Day celebration at Lingmethang Primary School
Two students participating in Social Forestry Day June 2, 2016, Mongar: The staff of Central Park Range Office under Phrumshingla National Park participated in celebrating Social Forestry Day with the teachers and students of Lingmethang Primary School in Mongar. The Chief Guest on the day was the Park Range Officer of Central Park Range Office who read out the Social Forestry Day message received from the Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests during the celebration. He added,” planting of tree seedling this year is especially important since trees provide us many benefits to human and wildlife on this planet. Similarly, HRH The Gyalsey is also equally important for the Bhutanese in deriving social and economical benefits for setting the country on the horizon of prosperity and tranquility.”
