  • Cleaning Campaign along Phajoding trail

    unnamed22 June Thimphu. Nature Recreation and Ecotourism Division (NRED), Department of Forests and Park Services organized a cleaning campaign along Phajoding trail in collaboration with Phajoding monks and Association of Bhutanese Tour Operators (ABTO). A total of 110 volunteers: Phajoding monks, tour operators, tour guides, hotels and youth volunteers from Clean Bhutan participated at the cleaning campaign.

    The campaign aimed to create awareness on waste management along the Phajoding trek with special focus to the most probable trek users such as tour operators, guides, monks and local visitors.

  • A dedicatory plantation on June 2nd, 2015- Social Forestry Day

    Mongar2nd June, Mongar: On the eve of celebrating 2nd June 2015 Social Forestry Day and also to commemorate the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, the members of the Drangmaling Kuenphen Community Forest under Mongar Dzongkhag and the staffs of Central Park Range of Phrumsengla National Park have shown the exemplary work to rest of the Community Forest members to prove that Community Forest is not only for utilisation of forest resources but also a way to re-stock the resources through plantation of trees of having high commercial timber values.

    The Day was celebrated by planting over 100 numbers of Walnut seedlings planted in 1.5 acres in the burnt and open areas of the CF. The seedlings were supplied from the nursery of Central Park Range Office at Lingmethang, Mongar upon the requisition put up by the members. The members of the CF were contented with their all efforts and expressed the views of having initiated plantation by the park management for the first time within 5th year of managing their Community Forest since 2010. They were also extremely delighted for being able to dedicate their work on the auspicious day to celebrate the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. One member said, “The trees they planted on this day would grow not only for us but even I couldn’t imagine how much would be the numbers in our child’s time”. The technical support and guidance were given to the members on how to take care of the seedlings.

    Ziziphus sp. known widely as Chamshing in Bhutan is a hardy deciduous tree under the Rhamnaceae family. The tree is highly revered in Bhutan as its stony seeds are used as rosary beads to enchant prayers in Buddhism. The species is of high conservation importance due to its rarity induced by poor regeneration and lack of scientific studies.

  • UWICE Training on Online Database for DoFPS

    15 June, Bumthang: More than 33 Administration personal from the Department of Forests and Parks Services (DoFPS) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests are attending a week long training at the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment (UWICE). This training is an effort to develop  an online database for the staff working at the Department of Forests and Parks Services. The training has been organised by UWICE, DoFPS with objectives to acquaint and enhance the skills of administration officials on the operation aspects of the HR database software.

    After a week long training, it is expected that all HR information will be electronically stored in this database, which would not only maintain and provide accurate  information on existing employees but will also make easy access for the Managers/HROs/ADMs to retrieve their data.
