  • Organic Agriculture Write Shop Ongoing

    norden16 to 8 June, 2018, Thimphu: A write shop on a Flagship Program on Organic Agriculture (OA) titled “Supporting organic sector development towards food security and livelihood” is being held in the Institute of Management Studies (IMS), Serbethang, Thimphu from 6 to 8thJune, 2018. The write shop was facilitated by the National Organic Programme (NOP) under the ARDC-Yusipang, Department of Agriculture (DoA) with budgetary support from the Policy Planning Division, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF).  It is being participated by the Flagship program’s focal officials from different agencies within the DoA, Department of Livestock, Department of Forest and Park Services, Department of Agricultural Marketing and Cooperatives, Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority and National Biodiversity Centre.

    The main objectives of the write shop were to develop a comprehensive plan and a concept paper for the Flagship program on OA, which is expected to be implemented in the 12th Five Year Plan (FYP).  The flagship program will be over and above the normal 12th FYP of the NOP which will be implemented in all the twenty Dzongkhags focussing on potential organic commodities comprising of crops, livestock commodities and Non-wood Forest Products.  The flagship program will also preferably be carried out in potential Geogs. Apart from organic productions, certifications, processing and marketing; the program will also focus on in-country organic inputs productions such as bio-fertilizers, bio-pesticides, organic seeds, organic feed and fodder. Other plans are to establish some important infrastructures such as labs, storage facilities, supply of organic farm inputs, carry out research and development activities, public advocacy and capacity building of stakeholders.

  • 5 June 2018: Pedestrians’ Day

    world-environment-day2Tuesday, 5 June 2018: As per the directives of the Government, every year the World Environment Day is observed as Pedestrians’ Day in Bhutan. Therefore, this is to notify all concerned that tomorrow 5 June 2018 is Pedestrians’ Day, when the vehicle traffic is limited in city centres. The exception is given to emergency and public transport.

  • ARDC-Samtenling observed Social Forestry Day

    Untitled-1Sarpang, June 2: The Agriculture Research Development Centre (ARDC), Samtenling jointly with Regional Seed Centre, Regional Farm Machinery Corporation Ltd, Gewog Administration, Geog RNR Extension, Samtenling Primary School and farming communities observed the Social Forestry Day coinciding with coronation day of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo by planting saplings and grasses at drinking and irrigation water source in Paitikhola, Samtenling.

    Paitikhola has been serving as a water source for various institutions and farming communities. However due to frequent and torrential rainfall, the area is vulnerable to landslides and degradation leading to drying of water. Therefore, to protect and secure water source from future mishaps, such program was organised.
