  • World Soil Day Celebrated at Damphu

    untitled-1December 5, Tsirang: On 5th December, Bhutan joined the global community world-wide to celebrate the World Soil Day with the National Soil Services Centre (NSSC), DoA organising the celebration at the Moelamthang at Damphu in Tsirang. With the theme “Soils and pulses, a symbiosis for life” the main objective of the celebration was to highlight the importance of soil as a critical component of the natural eco-system and as a vital contributor to the human wealth through its contribution to food, water and energy security and as a mitigator of biodiversity loss and climate change. 2016 being the year of pulses, the importance of pulses as soil fertility enhancer was also highlighted.

    Director, Department of Agriculture graced the occasion as the chief guest and opening the day’s activities strongly emphasised on the importance of soil and land management considering the limited arable land in Bhutan on which about 65% of our still population subsist. In order to help improve our food sufficiency goals, the importance of soil & land management cannot be overlooked.

    The Research and Development Center for Organic Agriculture-Yusipang, Department of Agriculture would like to invite airfare quotation from eligible ticketing agents for the following sectors, as per the itinerary provided below:

    1. The sealed rate may be submitted to the office of undersigned on 12th December 2016on or before 10 am and will be opened on the same day at 11 am.
    2. Sealed quotation should be addressed to the Offtg. Program Director, RDC-OA, Yusipang, Thimphu.
    3. Quotations without sealed envelope will be disqualified.
    4. The valid trade license and other necessary documents should be attached.
    5. The Air ticketing order shall be issued within a month from the date of submission of quotation. The fluctuation in air fare within 45 days shall result in cancellation of bids.
    6. The decision of the tender committee will be final and binding.
    7. Evaluation of bids will be based on fare as well as the availability of confirmed seats, suitability of travel timing and reputation of the airline for safety reasons.

  • Second batch of Farm Machinery Training completes

    mmexport1480653568334November 30: Sixty operators completed a second batch of farm machinery training on power tiller and tractor that was conducted in Paro, Samteling and Khangma offices of the Agriculture Machinery Centre. They shall be now engaged as geog power tiller operators.

    In Paro, 20 operators were trained in operation and maintenance of power tiller who were nominated by the Dzongkhag Agriculture Sectors of Trongsa, Wangdue and Punakha. In Samteling, 24 operators were trained; they were nominated from Sarpang and Zhemgang. In Khangma, 11 operators from Mongar and Trashigang were trained. Five operators were trained for tractor course at Paro which is a three month course.

    November 14-25, Paro: Twenty untrained extension officers (EOs) from Thimphu, Paro, Haa, Chukha, Samtse, Dagana, Wangdue and Punakha completed training on the operation and maintenance of power tiller at the Agriculture Machinery Centre (AMC). They were awarded certificates by the Chief-Guest, the Chief Executive Officer of the Farm Mechanisation Corporation Limited.
