Thimphu: The Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF) will commemorate World Food Day 2020 on a theme “Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together. Our Actions are our Future” on 16 October.
The event is a joint effort among the MoAF, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP) and other partners. Amidst the global health crisis of COVID-19, the event is an opportunity to reflect on this year’s theme while working together to address issues related to food, nutrition, agriculture and overall health and well-being of the citizens.
Each year, the World Food Day is observed coinciding with the founding day of the FAO. World Food Day 2020 also marks the 75th anniversary of FAO in an exceptional moment as countries around the world deal with the widespread effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic. The day is being marked just a week after WFP, the largest humanitarian organization and the first responder on the frontlines of hunger, food insecurity and disasters was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
