  • Inauguration of Fenchikhola-Kamigoan Irrigation Scheme in Samtse

    13423773_1267782696566057_4740430101303532592_nThe newly constructed Fenchikhola-Kamigaon irrigation scheme in Norgaygang Gewog, Samtse was inaugurated on 19 June 2016 by Dasho Nim Dorji, Director General, Department of Agriculture (DoA). The 9.8 km long irrigation scheme (piped) will benefit 150 households of Halhaley, Beteni, Gondaygaon, Lepcha gaon, Beachgaon, Mukhunigaon and Kamigaon villages. The scheme will irrigate over 200 acres of paddy-land and is expected to enhance local crop production.

    13442120_1267782733232720_2220874276267058298_nThe project was financed by the Government of India through the Project-Tied Assistance (PTA) program. Nu. 35.84 million was spent on the construction of 9.8 km long pipe irrigation channel and was completed in 10 months. The work was entirely surveyed, designed and supervised by Engineering Division, DoA. The Department of Agriculture would like to thank all the major stakeholders i.e. Dzongkhag, Drungkhag and Gewog administrations, local communities, engineers and the Contractor for smooth implementation of the project.

  • Milk Processing Unit, Gaining Momentum

    Milk-Processing-UnitJune 8, Pemagatshel: Gypsum Gonor Chirphuen Detshen, a farmers dairy group has become the seventh Milk Processing Unit (MPU) in the Dzongkhag wherein 70 farmers collect fresh milk and process them into butter and cheese using modern equipment.

    The milk collections are done every day from three villages of Yalang, Denchi and Khothakpa.  The group also owns a sales counter in the Gypsum town to sell the processed products at a reasonable price.
