August 1-4, Thimphu: More than 25 people including women representing progressive co-operatives, BAOWE, Tarayana Foundation, Youth Development Fund and field officers from the Department of Agricultural Marketing and Cooperatives (DAMC) are attending a training on Management Capacity of Women for Co-Operative Development at Jambayang Resort. Resource persons are experts from the International Co-operative Alliance-Asia Pacific (ICA-AP) Secretariat, a well-known co-operative in Sri Lanka.
While the training subject is building capacity of the co-operative as a whole, it is designed in a way to give greater stress on women members considering that approximately 46% of the members of farmer groups and co-operatives in Bhutan are women but only around 20 % of them are in leadership. The training is being organised by DAMC with fund support from ICA-AP.
