With the support from Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF), Food Corporation of Bhutan Limited (FCBL) has undertaken the procurement, processing and marketing of locally produced rice varieties. FCBL procured about 385.52 MT of paddy from Wangdue- Punakha, Samdrup Jongkhar and Gelephu. Out of the total purchased paddy quantity, 293.52 MT of paddy has been milled recovering 176.1 MT of rice. The 92 mT of un-milled paddy stock will be soon milled at Chuzaygang Rice Mill. A total of 47.75 mT of rice has been already sold and FCBL still has 128.6 MT of rice in stock. In order to enhance the marketing of local rice, it is also being advertised through Local Channels at Phuentsholing and Thimphu. Further, this week, the availability of local rice for sale with FCBL will also be aired through BBS.
Therefore, we would like to request all our RNR colleagues to please pay visits to FCBL depots and retails to purchase and taste local rice.

24 May 2015, Thimphu: The Fourth Joint Agricultural Working Group (JAWG) began today at Hotel Druk, Thimphu. The meeting was chaired by the Hon’ble Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF), Dasho Tenzin Dhendup with representatives from Bhutan’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forests and Thailand’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.

May 19, Haa: The Matsutake mushroom collectors from Eusu, Bji and Katsho geogs and officials from the Matsutake exporting firms (Tashi Commercial Corporation and Ugyen Exporters), National Mushroom Centre (NMC) and Dzongkhag agriculture officials met in a meeting organised by the Department of Agricultural Marketing and Cooperatives (DAMC).
The meeting was organised considering the potential of mushroom collection in Haa but due to lack of market, the mushroom collectors have not shown keen interest in this venture till date.
