  • ToT on Farmers Group/Cooperatives Formation for Agriculture EAs of Samtse and S/Jongkhar

    16-20 July, Samtse: RDC Bajo, in partnership with the Department of Agricultural and Marketing Cooperatives (DAMC) conducted a five days Training of Trainers (ToT) on farmers group/cooperative formation for the extension agents of Samtse and Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhags from 16 to 20 July 2014 at the Samtse Geog Extension Centre. The training was designed so as to help the field colleagues in the dzongkhags to gain an in-depth understanding regarding groups and cooperatives formations. The resource persons for the training were from DAMC and RDC Bajo. With the launch of the rice commercialisation program, the Department of Agriculture (DoA) has initiated formation of many farmers groups in the potential rice growing areas. Twenty two extension personnel have attended the training which had the following broad objectives of Agricultural Cooperatives/groups:

  • Daily Auction Details for Ophiocordyceps (2014 Season)

    The Ophiocordyceps auctioning for the 2014 season in the country has started on 10 July, 2014 in Paro dzongkhag and will conclude on 3 August, 2014 in Lhuentse Dzongkhag. As in the previous year, the respective geog administration is taking the lead in conducting the auctions. Officials from Park/Territorial division, Dzongkhag Administration, Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority and DAMC facilitate and support the concerned geog administration in the auctioning process.

    ** The no. of participants may represent the number of households only since 3 collection permits are issued per household. Only a member of the household may represent at the auction on behalf of the collectors.

  • Contract Fodder Production: Platform for Lucrative Income Generation in Farmers Group

    Gelephu, Sarpang: Yangchenphu is a small village in Dekiling geog (towards Gelephu highway) situated 8 km from the Dzongkhag headquarters of Sarpang. It has a sparse settlement comprising only 25 households. The farming system more or less practices mix farming with little or no access to modern farming technologies. Their traditional farming is deprived of field irrigation as the water source is inaccessible. It is also de-motivated by the inflection of wild animals that causes destruction to their crops. These gradually defeated interest in farming, as a result of which the fields remained fallow.
