  • Assistant Director General and Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific of FAO calls on Sanam Lyonpo

    April 22, Thimphu:  The Assistant Director General and Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific of FAO, Dr. Kundhavi Kadiresan called on the Sanam Lyonpo, Yeshey Penjor.  Lyonpo and Dr. Kundhavi discussed on a wide range of issues and areas of collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests and FAO.  One of the areas that were discussed is on the Bhutan-FAO Country Program Framework which is under formulation.  Dr. Khudhavi said that CPF should have activities that we “must do, can do and can built partnership.”

    The Ministry and FAO agreed to further collaborate in areas of organic agriculture and its certification processes.  FAO also offered to collaborate with the Ministry on the Agriculture Vision 2045.

  • Power tiller test code & Reaper test code and standard book launched

    18 April, Thimphu: Hon’ble Director, Department of Agriculture (DoA) launched  three books on Farm Machinery Standards in presence of Chiefs, officials from AMC and FMCL at DoA conference hall. The books are for power tiller standard, Walk Behind Power Reaper test code and standard. The books were launched with the objective to introduce safe and efficient farm machineries in the country.

    AMC is mandated to ensure safe and efficient farm machinery use in the country. In line with this objective, Bhutan farm machinery standards are made under the guidance of the Bhutan Standards Bureau.  Based on the set standards, AMC conducts tests on machines which are either manufactured inside the country or are imported and those machines whose specifications and features confirm to the set standards are then issued a certificate.

  • Program Director of National Highland Research Development Centre, Bumthang appointed

    Upon endorsement of RCSC HR Committee and subsequent to the officer order of MoAF, Dr. Vijay Raika, Specialist III/ES-3 who was working at the National Centre for Animal Health, Serbithang as a head of Drug Vaccine and Equipment Unit has been formally appointed as Program Director of National Highland Research Development Centre, Bumthang with effect from 1st April 2019. He has formally received tashi khadar from the Director General and other colleagues from the Department of Livestock.  The Department and the Ministry wish him good luck for his new assignments.
