  • Local Rice Marketing Program

    With the support from Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF), Food Corporation of Bhutan Limited (FCBL) has undertaken the procurement, processing and marketing of locally produced rice varieties. FCBL procured about 385.52 MT of paddy from Wangdue- Punakha, Samdrup Jongkhar and Gelephu.  Out of the total purchased paddy quantity, 293.52 MT of paddy has been milled recovering 176.1 MT of rice. The 92 mT of un-milled paddy stock will be soon milled at Chuzaygang Rice Mill. A total of 47.75 mT of rice has been already sold and FCBL still has 128.6 MT of rice in stock. In order to enhance the marketing of local rice, it is also being advertised through Local Channels at Phuentsholing and Thimphu. Further, this week, the availability of local rice for sale with FCBL will also be aired through BBS.

    Therefore, we would like to request all our RNR colleagues to please pay visits to FCBL depots and retails to purchase and taste local rice.

  • SAP Essay Competition

    As in the past years, School Agriculture Program (SAP, CoRRB) would like to encourage all individuals to propose a suitable topic for the annual SAP literary competition for various levels (PS, LSS, MSS, HSS).

    The proposed topics will be compiled and selected by a committee and tendered to schools for open competition. Selected topics will be rewarded.

    Since this year is a very special year to celebrate the 60th Birth Anniversary of our beloved 4th King, H.H Je Khenpo and Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, the topics can be about Agriculture and Socio-Development in Bhutan.our

  • 26 June 2015: Birth Anniversary of Guru Rinpoche: National Holiday in Bhutan

    Guru_Rinpoche26 June 2015 is a public holiday in Bhutan to observe the Birth Anniversary of Guru Rinpoche. It is celebrated on the tenth day of the sixth lunar month, which typically falls in June or July in the Gregorian calendar and this year on 26 June. Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche, brought Buddhism to Bhutan.

    According to legend, in the eighth century Guru Rinpoche flew to a cave in Bhutan from Tibet on the back of his consort Yeshe Tsogyal, whom he transformed into a tigress, and meditated there for three years, three months, three weeks, three days and three hours. Later, the famous Paro Taktsang monastery, also known as the Tigress’ Lair (or Tiger’s Nest) was built around that cave.
