26-30 November 2018, Thimphu: With organic production sector as one of the flagship programs of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests for the 12th FYP, BAFRA is gearing towards building its capacity to carry out certification activities in line with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17065 (Conformity assessment – Requirements for bodies certifying products, processes and services). A three-day training program on ISO/IEC 17065 was held from 26-28 November 2018, at Chuniding Resort in Thimphu, with resource person from National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB), India.
The training is aimed to build the competency of BAFRA officials in carrying out the Organic and BhutanGAP certification to achieve ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation for Organic and BhutanGAP certification. Generally, the accreditation is expected to promote Organic and GAP products in the market through product differentiation, ensuring product integrity, quality and safety, fetching premium price, reduction in costly testing and inspection processes, facilitation of international trade, mutual recognition and acceptance. In continuation to the three-day training program, another two days will be spent to familiarize the participants on Bhutan Organic Certification Scheme and Bhutan Organic Standard.
The training was attended by 37 BAFRA officials from various field offices and other relevant officials from the head office. The opening session of the training program was graced by the Director General, BAFRA.
