12-15 November, Thimphu: In order to sensitise on the Environmental and Social Management Framework which will ensure the activities of the Remote Rural Communities Development Project (RRCDP), the Policy and Planning Division of the Ministry organised a workshop at the conference hall of the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Officials from the headquarter along with the local leaders, geog administration officers, extension agents and sector heads of the six project areas, namely Haa, Dagana, Samtse, Chukha, Wangdue and Trongsa attended it.
During the meeting, presentations highlighting the overview of the project, its progress and on-going activities were shared. Participants were informed on the environmental and social screening procedures and implementation guidelines which as per the World Bank is mandatory before the implementation of any activities in the field. Based on the presented criteria and tools, participants carried out the practical exercises to understand the framework format. Further, guidelines were distributed to help them in implementing the project activities effectively.
RRCDP is a five years project (November 2012-November 2017) funded by the World Bank with a total budget of USD 9.52 million. It aims to increase the agriculture productivity and community assets in rural areas by improving access to markets, irrigation, agricultural technologies and community infrastructure. The project will ensure at least 20% increase in each of the targeted components. According to a spokesperson, the project will directly benefit about 6, 440 rural households covering 26 geogs in the project areas.
