A day long awareness program on cooperatives was conducted as a part of group formation and registration process for Thimphu based Youth Co-operative at the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Conference Hall on 18 June 2014. Some 21 youths who are currently unemployed and are living in Thimphu after their studies have come together to form a youth based co-operative. The main objective of the co-operative is to create enabling environment for the youth towards generating self employment and also inculcate a sense of savings and credit amongst youths. Their main focus of the business will be agriculture and livestock based businesses.
In order to assist the members of the co-operative kick start their business on a co-operative model, the awareness program covered the following modules:
- Generalities of Co-operative
- Business Plan
- Drawing of By-laws and Constitution
- Co-operative (Amendment) Act of Bhutan 2009
- Registration Price
In addition to the above modules, the program also consisted of extensive discussions and question-answer sessions.
They will shortly be processing for registration with the DAMC and start their business as a co-operative.
