29 June Trongsa. Regional Awareness and Consultation workshop on REDD+ Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, and the role of Conservation, Sustainable Management of Forest and, Enhancement of Forest Carbon Stocks for the eastern region and central region are being conducted at Trashigang and Trongsa respectively. The main objective of the consultation workshop is to create awareness among the stakeholders on the climate change issues and the relevance of initiating REDD+ activities in Bhutan. Some of the specific agenda include review of draft Corruption Risks Assessment document and Stakeholder Engagement Guidelines for REDD+ activities.
For the eastern region, sixty five participants attended the workshop involving representatives from territorial divisions (S/Jongkhar, Mongar, Trashigang), Bumdeling and Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuaries, Dzongkhag Forestry Sectors (S/Jongkhar, Lhuntse, Mongar, TrashiYangtse, Trashigang, Pema Gatshel) and Geog Administrative Officers from Trashigang. The workshop was conducted on 23rd and 24th June 2015.
For the central region, the workshop is being held at Trongsa with participants from territorial divisions (Sarpang, Wangdue, Bumthang, Zhemgang), Royal Manas National Park, Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park, Wangchuck Centennial National Park, Phrumsengla National Park, Dzongkhag Forestry Sectors (Bumthang, Wangdue, Trongsa, Sarpang, Zhemgang) and Geog Administrative Officers from Trongsa. About 45 participants are attending the workshop on 29 and 30th June 2015.
The workshop is organized by Watershed Management Division, Department of Forests and Park Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests with funding support from UN-REDD programme.
