6 May, Thimphu: The Australian delegation comprising of four senior advisors namely, James Charlie Maslin, Donn Berghofer, Duncan Peter Reid and Hall Raymond Parnell called on the Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo Yeshey Penjor.
Welcoming the delegation, Lyonpo shared that the Ministry in the 12th five year plan will continue to work towards the commitment of conserving natural resources in addition to meeting the food and nutrition self-sufficiency. He shared that the Ministry is also aiming to expand the RNR activities to the export level for better opportunities.
The Agriculture Secretary, Dasho Rinzin Dorji talked on other priorities areas such as niche products for export, value addition, enterprise development, import substitution, watershed management and youth employment. The meeting also discussed the possibility of Australian support in crop and livestock compensation scheme.
The delegation is in the country from May 5 to observe the situation in Bhutan and make appropriate recommendations particularly in terms of agro industries and natural resources management and explore potential bilateral cooperation between Bhutan and Australia in the agriculture sector.
Both Bhutan and Australia looks forward to strengthening collaboration in terms of the RNR sector. Diplomatic relations between the two countries was established on 14 September 2002.
