April 22, Thimphu: The Assistant Director General and Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific of FAO, Dr. Kundhavi Kadiresan called on the Sanam Lyonpo, Yeshey Penjor. Lyonpo and Dr. Kundhavi discussed on a wide range of issues and areas of collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests and FAO. One of the areas that were discussed is on the Bhutan-FAO Country Program Framework which is under formulation. Dr. Khudhavi said that CPF should have activities that we “must do, can do and can built partnership.”
The Ministry and FAO agreed to further collaborate in areas of organic agriculture and its certification processes. FAO also offered to collaborate with the Ministry on the Agriculture Vision 2045.
Dr. Kundhavi is on four days official visit to Bhutan, this is her first visit after taking over as the Assistant Director General and Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific. Dr. Kundhavi will also be launching the conceptual framework for Bhutan-FAO country Framework Programme (2019-2023) agreed between RGoB and FAO with Lyonpo.
The RGoB and FAO started its partnership in 1973 with FAO and became its member in 1981. The FAO Bhutan Country Office was established in 1985.
