31 March, Samdrup Jongkhar: In order to popularise superior quality genetic breeds through provision of efficient nutrition and health care management and achieve genetic potentials of the crossbred cows, an Artificial Insemination (AI) program followed by sensitisation cum training was inaugurated in Martshalla geog. The improvement of the genetic materials could mean an increase in the production by more than 1200 litres of milk in 300 days (one lactation length).
The Geog Gup graced the program as a Chief Guest who highlighted the importance of AI and its benefits for the rural community in his speech. More than 50 farmers of Dungmanma and Gorthongma Dairy Cooperatives, which was established five years ago, attended the program.
Farmers were informed on the AI technology and its wider advantage which has more implications enhancing the livelihood of the rural community through power point presentations using pictographic aids, educational videos and manual demonstration on handling AI equipments. Till now, the program has received a good amount of positive response and feedback from farmers on the initiated technology.
A few weeks ago, the livestock sector also conducted a cattle synchronisation program for 52 breedable female cows in Martshalla. This was done as part of their annual planning based on the needs and interest of farmers while also taking a lead role towards livestock development in geog.
In the future, the sector has a literal plan to extend the program into Contract Heifer and Bull Production Program (CHBPP) to curve the existing constraints of producing poor quality progeny (disadvantaged breed) in the cooperatives. The activity will be done as per the 1st Five Year Plan program.
