Sarpang, June 2: The Agriculture Research Development Centre (ARDC), Samtenling jointly with Regional Seed Centre, Regional Farm Machinery Corporation Ltd, Gewog Administration, Geog RNR Extension, Samtenling Primary School and farming communities observed the Social Forestry Day coinciding with coronation day of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo by planting saplings and grasses at drinking and irrigation water source in Paitikhola, Samtenling.
Paitikhola has been serving as a water source for various institutions and farming communities. However due to frequent and torrential rainfall, the area is vulnerable to landslides and degradation leading to drying of water. Therefore, to protect and secure water source from future mishaps, such program was organised.
Around 130 participants planted 550 tree saplings and 7000 napier grass cuttings. This celebration is the vision of our Beloved Majesties to ensure the policy of maintaining 60% forest cover at all the times in the country’s constitution. With such policy and celebration, the water source is protected to offer immense benefit of drinking and irrigation water to the locals which will improve their health and uplift their economy.
The same water source will be maintained all the times by planting more trees and grasses.
