April 4-6, Sarpang: The Aquaculture Workshop Cum Coordination Meeting 2016 is underway in Gelephu. Participants include the Regional Directors of the four Regional Livestock Development Centres, Dzongkhag Livestock Officers, field officers and division heads from Department of Livestock (DoL). Organised by the National Centre for Aquaculture Research (NCAR), the workshop is being chaired by the Director General of DoL.
The meeting aims to harmonise the country’s aquaculture program with the outcomes of the DoL’s Organisation Development Exercise (DoL-ODE) and the stipulations of annual performance agreement. Among other things, the event will enable the tweaking of existing aquaculture development strategies towards realising the 11th Five Year Plan aquaculture program goals. Further, a critical assessment of the challenges faced in developing aquaculture in Bhutan will be conducted towards identifying and implementing solutions that are productive, dynamic and absolutely amenable to the objectives of ODE.
In a nutshell, the event marks the birth of a new avatar of aquaculture program that will not only strive to address existing and newly arisen challenges, but also pay adequate attention to heretofore unheeded aspects such as aquaculture research and value addition, all in accordance with the stipulations of the ODE and geared towards enabling the country to realise its overall objective of food self-sufficiency.
