March 11, Thimphu: His Excellency Mr. Jozel Drofenik, the Ambassador of Republic of Slovenia paid a call on to the Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo, Yeshey Penjor.
Their Excellencies discussed on the possible areas of collaboration in terms of bee keeping and forest resources. Lyonpo shared that bee keeping in Bhutan is picking up over the years. However, Bhutan has a limited capacity in terms of its value addition and market. The Ambassador informed that Slovenia is advanced in forest management and bee keeping areas. He assured to support Bhutan through transfer of relevant technologies.
The Ambassador also showed keen interest in Bhutanese red rice. Their Excellencies further discussed about the human wildlife conflict, one of the major problems for farmers. On this, the Ambasasdor responded that Slovenia have a lot of experiences and have locally developed measures in place which can be shared, if found feasible in Bhutan.
Bhutan and the Republic of Slovenia wishing to strengthen and develop mutually beneficial relations have established diplomatic relations on 13 September 2012. Slovenia is the 41st country with which Bhutan established its diplomatic relations.
