November 20, Thimphu: A handbook called ‘Bhutan Climate + Change’ was launched by the Hon’ble Agriculture and Forests Minister, Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji and Dr. David Molden, the ICIMOD Director General.
The handbook covers the basics on climate science, impacts, risk and vulnerability, adaptation/mitigation measures and concerns particularly related to Climate Change (CC) in Bhutan. It will serve as a guide for government officials and other local policy makers who wish to understand the impacts of CC in Bhutan.
At the community level, the handbook will help decision makers take the key steps required to plan for CC adaption and determine what strategic actions need to be taken. In doing so, people will understand the causes and impacts of CC better, prepare them to live with its risks and empower them to adopt a sustainable lifestyle.
ICIMOD and Bhutan Media and Communication Institute jointly published the handbook as part of the activities implemented under the Rural Livelihoods and Climate Change Adaptation in the Himalayas Initiative. It is funded by the EU Project.
In addition to the handbook, a poster on CC highlighting His Majesty The King at Gangla Karchung (5250 masl) in Lunana was launched.
