Inauguration of the Community A.I Centre at Tselingkhor village

22 June, Pemagatshel: The long awaited dream of Maymey Tenzin, 67 years old for having a community Artificial Insemination (A.I) Centre at Tselingkhor village in Pemagatshel came to reality on 11 June 2015. There were tears of joy in his eyes and a derelict smile in his wrinkled face. His neighbour, Ahbee Choden, was amused to see Maymey Dorji in this state.

“Memay, Hawa Yaa?” in local dialect literally meaning “What happened?” asked Ahbee Choden. Memay replied, “My dream to own jersey cows has come true” and helped her to the consecration site where the officials and the community members were ready for inauguration. He vividly remembers one time taking his cow all the way to the geog centre that required a minimum of 2 hours walking distance for artificial insemination services and the difficulties encountered in availing it. “Look here the service is just at our doorstep and the jersey factory is here”, applauded Maymey Tenzin in the local dialect.

With much joy and relief to Maymey Tenzin, the Community A.I Centre was inaugurated at Tselinghor village jointly by the RLDC, Zobel Geog administration, the Dzongkhag Livestock Sector with a simple consecration ceremony. Tselinghkor village is 50 Kms from the Dzongkhag Headquarters, Pema Gatshel and falls under Zobel geog with 32 households.  Addressing the gathering of about 50 farmers, the Mangmi thanked the Department of Livestock particularly the Dzongkhag Livestock sector and Regional Livestock Development Centre, Kanglung for introducing the Community Artificial Insemination Services (CA.IS) in this isolated village. He said he hoped that this program would contribute towards breed improvement in the community.  Maymey Tenzin also praised the 45 years Community A.I technician Mr. Phuntsho Wangdi’s assurance for his commitment to provide best services to the community and the community assured him Nu. 150 per insemination and Nu. 100 & 250 for male and female progenies born respectively. Mr. Thukten, from the Breeding section, RLDC Kanglung; Dzongkhag Veterinary Officer, Livestock Production Officer and the Geog In-charges attended the inauguration. An awareness campaign on Artificial Insemination was also imparted to the participants by the team.
