Bumthang: Thousands of people flocked to observe the 7th Mushroom Festival at Ura Dozhi geog on 23-24 August 2017. The festival was organised by the Ura Mushroom Conservation and Tourism Association with fund support and collaboration from the Phrumsengla National Park.
The festival was held to showcase Matsutake (Sangay Shamu) and other local organic products and generate income through their sale. It was also to advocate on the conservation of mushroom varieties through a sustainable harvesting and preserve their culture and tradition by performing local and mask dances to the foreign visitors and people from other Dzongkhags.
Exhibition stalls showcased and sold the local organic products and roasted Matsutake from Ura community, bamboo shoot pickle from Kheng Budashi and advocacy programs by the concerned agencies.
Dasho Drangpon from Bumthang was the Chief Guest for the festival. Offering of delicious Matsutake soup to the Chief Guest and other people was the first day attraction. Cups filled with delicious soup and eyeing at the beautiful portray of cultural entertainment by local community and students of Ura Dozhi were the joyous moment observed by the visitors.
They also got opportunity to witness different shopping stalls constructed outside the celebration ground.
Various entertaining events such as the tug of war, musical chair and balloon blasting competitions were held to mark the celebration. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners by the Chief Guest.
Like setting of sun behind the mountains on a glorious day, the two day program came to end with a Trashi Lebey anticipating for the next joyous celebration.
