24 May 2015, Thimphu: The Fourth Joint Agricultural Working Group (JAWG) began today at Hotel Druk, Thimphu. The meeting was chaired by the Hon’ble Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF), Dasho Tenzin Dhendup with representatives from Bhutan’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forests and Thailand’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.

The Bhutanese Delegation consisted of the Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA), Department of Agricultural Marketing and Cooperatives (DAMC), Department of Agriculture (DoA) and the Department of Livestock (DoL). The Thai delegation led by Miss Doojduan Sasanavin, the Inspector General of the Office of the Permanent Secretary comprised the Royal Irrigation Department, the Department of Livestock Development, the National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards.

The half day meeting first reported on the agricultural cooperation adopted at the 3rd JAWG meeting that was held on 27 January at Chiang Rai in Thailand. Representatives of the various MoAF agencies then reported on the achievements presently under cooperation between Thailand and Bhutan.

On the following two days (25th and 26th May) the Thai Delegation will be taken on a day field visit to Paro’s National Post Harvest Centre, Agriculture Machinery Centre, the National Seed Centre, the Paro Museum and Khangkhu Farm. There will also be a field program in Thimphu which will include Dochula, the National Food Testing Laboratory at Yusipang, the Research Development Centre also at Yusipang and Dechencholing FALC.
