Sanam Lyonpo visits 5th RBFE preparation sites at Samdrup Jongkhar

Hon’ble Lyonpo meet with 5th RBFE Committee member at Samdrup Jongkhar

January 31-February 11: The Hon’ble Lyonpo, Yeshey Penjor visited flower exhibition sites and monitored the ongoing preparations for 5th Royal Bhutan Flower Exhibition (RBFE) in Samdrup Jongkhar. Meeting with the committee, His Excellency stressed on the importance of event and to live up to the objectives and expectations of His Majesty The King. Lyonpo also emphasized on the sustainability of the investment, sacrifices and effort nation has made for the event. His Excellency informed that the exhibition should not for the purpose of exhibition alone; the larger part of it is to be used as a platform to give meaning and purpose to Bhutanese people to live clean and contribute to nation building.

Lyonpo also graced the opening ceremony of first ever RNR Extension Conference for agriculture and livestock extension staffs of Agriculture Research Development Center, Samtenling Cluster Dzongkhags held in Gelephu from 11th – 12th February, 2019 . Speaking to the gathering, His Excellency informed that the event should be used more as an opportunity to knowing more from the grassroots and for the RNR family come together and acquainton national priorities, 12th Five Year Plan besides understanding the roles of every RNR staff has in contributing to the realization of national aspirations and development objectives. His Excellency also thanked participants on the commendable achievement in the 11th FYP and requested for a renewed commitment and hard work in shouldering 12th FYP.

As a part of the program, Lyonpo also visited field offices in Trongsa, Zhemgang, Samdrup Jongkhar, Sarpang, Tsirang and Wangdue.

During the visit, His Excellency met with people and RNR field staffs and discussed on the government priorities and priorities for the agriculture sector in the 12th Five Year Plan. Lyonpo made a specific mention on Bhutan’s graduation from LDC (Least Developed Countries) status and the onus people and government have in preparation for the graduation. His Excellency stressed on the need to enhance agriculture research, production, post-harvest management and marketing to substitute import of agriculture product through domestic production.

He also informed people on government’s plans to supply schools and health institutions local cereals and vegetables in the coming years and the roles individual farmer, RNR staff and research station have in collaboratively achieving the shared objectives. In doing so, His Excellency emphasized on the need to work in close collaboration among the communities, agencies, ministries and with the larger stakeholders. Compartmentalized and individualistic approach, he said, should be avoided and to work as a team as one RNR family. Lyonpo also encouraged enhanced communication, information sharing and knowledge dissemination across various level in bureaucracy, agencies and ministries.
